Where’s the cheapest place I can get double mats for framing photos–either pre-cut or special order?

holacarinados asked:

I’m want to buy about 25 double-mats — all the same interior and exterior dimensions, but whenever I look at prices, I have to compute type of mat, cutting fee, shipping fee, etc., and doing that for 10 different matting websites is confusing to the point I have to call some of them up to figure out the final fee. Anyone have a recommendation for a matting website? Or should I try eBay or a store?

Seriously. Try buying a matting knife (cheap) and practice making your own

I agree, making your own isn’t THAT hard as long as you have a metal straight edge like a good T-Square and practice making straight cuts on scraps.

Or, I sometimes buy nice double mats on sale at Michaels. I always look at their sale or discount items and sometimes they have a BUNCH of mats for super cheap. You can’ tbe too picky about size, color, and shape though.

Other than that, usually, the more you buy of something, the cheaper they are. Look for large discount stores or warehouse-type suppliers and buy in bulk.

As suggested, if you will doing this a lot you may want to learn how to cut them yourself but you have to have the equipment. Here is a site to look at and you can get what you are looking for here including the equipment if that is what you choose to do,

    Hope this helps,
