What’s the best way to wash soiled car floor mats?
SCHLANGEMANN asked:
Does anyone know the best way to wash soiled floor mats from a car? They are a rug like material on top and a foam rubber on the bottom to prevent slippage. Can I just throw them in a washing machine with regular detergent w/ bleach (such as Tide), or will that end up damaging them destroy the material? I really don’t want to destroy the mats by washing them improperly because they are original BMW floor mats and are quite durable. Thanks.
I’m going to try Woolite, as I hear it does a great job on carpet and rug material. I’ll see if that works.

Take them to a car wash. They have little rug things to hang them with so you can wash them.
just take them out and use a scrub brush on them with soap and water and hang them up to dry.
i always do mine at the car wash they usually have clips where you can hang them up and spray wash them
How about taking it to a car wash.? Use the pressure wash nozzle.Make sure you dont point too close to it , get atleast 2 ft distance.
Washing floor mats is not a task, but you can tear them apart real quick if you’re not careful. A washing machine is not a good idea. All you need to do is take a scrub brush to them and some soapy water. If they are really stained up use a multipurpose degreaser (Any parts store carries it) or carpet cleaner. Always test chemicals in an inconspicuous place before using it on the whole item. Some chemicals will take color and leave you with a bigger mess then what you had when you started. Don’t forget to rinse them out real good so the chemical does stand still in your carpets, and let them dry out before you put them back or they will mold and mildew.
spray nine and a car wash, dont get to close ull be ok. thats all i do with the interior where i work you would be suprised at the ammount of things that get soaked in spray nine and then pressure washed, seats especially… just be sure to let them dry well before reinstalling
I used a dishwashing liquid soap to wash the floor mats by hand on my Honda Civic. I do it outside the house near the faucet where the garden hose is connected. When I’m done, I just place it flat on the table or hang it on the cloths line. It works for me.
The most expensive, carpet cleaner. Disadvantage, color fading if you don’t know what you are doing.
