Shake it up! asked:
I have very light upholstry, which has prettymuch not been cleaned since 1998 (when the car was made). I have got to clean the mats, because they are absolutely disgusting. What is the best way to clean the mats? Is there a product that you would recommend?
Lay them out on your driveway, hose them off, then scrub with mild detergent and brush, hose again, then dry in the sun.
Take them out of the car and vacuum them. Then hose them off. Use a scrub brush and carpet cleaner to scrub them. Rinse them thoroughly. Let them dry in the sun.
At my job where I detail cars we just spray on tire cleaner then use a pressure washer and spray it all out. Then **** the water out with a wet/dry vac and let them dry. An all prupose cleaner would work fine too.
i would actually buy new ones if there that old. but other than that so to walmart or kragen and they sell like a spray thing you put on the mats and the cap is a scrubber you use to scrub the liquid with and it works wonders. buy the mid price one dont go for the cheapest b/c they dont work as good
Take them to the car wash! When you take the car to wash it, they have little clips on the wall that are there specifically for that. Since they will be wet, I would suggest taking some towels or garbage bags with you to put in the trunk. I guess you could also use the shampoo/vacuum to **** the majority of the water out.
My mother in law gave me her old car. 1999
My car looks almost new again.
Believe me, my gray carpet was black with grease old age ect. The seats had soda spilled on them. First vacuum really well. Use Bissell carpet cleaner in a can, really spray seats good & scrub it into the fibers with a softer bristle brush & vacuum.
For mats spray foam then scrub with stiff brush & warm water, rinse mats under a faucet then shop vac.
If the shampoo foam bubbles are still filthy repeat these steps 2 or 3 times until the upholstery looks normal again.
Let dry in sun.
Get a carpet cleaner. Or go get it detailed.
