Garage Floor Mats and Duty Free Shopping in Giant Hangars
Hedin Johan asked:
First tax then duty free?
Coming off a flight at Brisbane airport recently I noticed that they had made an attempt at expanding the airport. A concourse with a moving walkway has been installed at some of the far gates and an expansion of the arrival duty free shops to name a few. For those of you who didn’t know it, you can actually buy duty free on the way in, and on the way out of Australia; the other one is at departures. So what’s this got to do with garage door mats you may ask?
Aircraft Garages-and garage floor mats
Strolling along the carpeted mat walkways towards duty free just before immigration, gives you a good view of the planes, cranes and their garages. These huge birds line up to either fly out of Australia or get stowed in one of hundreds of garages (in airport language; hangars) in the airport. Some of these hangars are absolutely huge with enormous automatic sliding doors operated by very powerful equipment. Rather like garage doors only most of these don’t tilt upwards they slide into divisions of panels called leaves. To give you a rough idea of the size of these doors, on average they span 200 meters wide and are about 50 meters high, which should be large enough for a plane like the A380 to fit into: A380-800 – Wing span 79.8m (261ft 10in), length 72,75m (238ft 8in). Height 24, 08 m (79ft). Which incidentally flies into Brisbane International for the first time on February 2nd, 2009? One of the main problems with hangar garage design is noise limitation. When an A380 or higher sales in to a plane garage one night, the noise and vibration of the aircraft could be enough to literally blow the roof off! Which is why, they are also specifically designed for noise limitation. Another way of limiting aircraft noise in a hangar is to lay insulation mats rather like the ones used in garages. Mats like these are so designed to not only help with plane parking but also to reduce the amount of resonant noise from the aircraft. They also help to protect the flooring of the hangar where sealing at the doors can also limit the amount of debris and dust that may blow in from the outside. Strolling into the new duty free shop I noticed they could do with a few mats themselves. Some the floor tiles were already cracked and stained with aid of the nasty trolley carts and old boots. I queued up at the register to buy myself a bottle of Gentleman Jack. The monitors glared out at me with an ad claiming competitive rates, they mean competitive surely?-They could do with a new spellchecker too perhaps. On the subject of competitive prices, garage floor mats for garages and even small hangars are available at companies like garageaccessories. Seeing all those aircraft, the maintenance crews and the huge hangers, made me want to get back to my garage and give it good seeing to. That is, laying some of these protective garage floor mats and the like.

Cover Those Floors in the Garage With Rubber Mats
Hedin Johan asked:
From one nasty stain to another
We actually had a mat on the garage floor at our house; it wasn’t a rubber mat or a professionally designed one. It was just some vinyl floor covering we took out from the kitchen. How wrong we were to use this. When we finally decided to throw this old mat out, we found that not only had it glued a nasty mess of slime on the garage floor but it had also left us with a big blue mark that is now irremovable to humankind. Yes, the kitchen flooring was a dark blue colour vinyl. Combining this with the engine oils, petrol spills and other liquids was enough to help dye the colour from the mats onto the concrete flooring of the garage. The end result: a massive cleaning exercise which was doomed to failure. A cost of nearly 500 dollars in failed cleaning bills, steam cleaner hire etc., not to mention a lot of useless elbow grease and wasted sweat. So after learning that lesson we decided it was time to go professional.
Some of the pros to think about when going in for rubber garage floor mats.
1. Since most garage floors are made of concrete, the oils and other substances such as green brake fluid slime and coolants will create a nice multi-coloured mess in the middle of the floor. These stains will be impossible to remove and in turn could actually decrease the value of your property by as much as 8%.
2. Insulation is always a problem in winter. Cold drafts can come in through the garage and into the rest of the house when the garage is not insulated properly. With the help of rubber garage floor mats and covers that can act as seal thresholds for the main doors, insulation improvement to the garage and the whole house can be achieved.
3. Garage mats and covers will also help decrease the noise level from the garage. When someone arrives home from work for example, the mats will dampen the engine and other noises that usually resonate through the rest of the house. And if your children enjoy noisy instruments like drums or bass guitars…
4. Garage mats and covers will also help with your parking too. They act as parking markers so that two cars can park in their correct positions at anytime. No more knocks and scratches!
So the moral of the story is as always, don’t try to save money by being cheap as we were; it’ll only cost you more money in the long run. We had to learn the hard way, that huge blue stain will be there forever and we will never be able to remove our garage floor covers. For expert advice, go check out the professionals. Companies like garageaccessories have a huge range of floor mats, floor covers and rubber covers. You can order online or phone toll-free. All orders come with installation instructions, tools and all you need to know for guaranteed floor protection.

Oftentimes, it is very hard to protect your garage floor from the many elements it comes in contact with everyday. This is especially true for garages with bare concrete floors. It’s a good thing that there are now a lot of new options and great solutions as far as garage floor coverings ideas are concerned. One good option is garage floor mats.
These mats can provide long lasting protection to your garage and keep it looking new at the same time. Almost all of the floor mats available in the market today can work against liquid spills, including oils or acids. Furthermore, mats can withhold liters of water, mud, coolant solutions, or oil.

When choosing which flooring idea to adapt for your garage, it is best to consider to one that require the least maintenance of all.
If the covering can effective protect the concrete and is quite easy to clean, then that should be a good buy. Another good thing about mats is their ability to trap dirt.

What you just have to do now is to regularly clean the garage floor mat so that all those dirt will completely go away. Lastly, floor mats reduces the friction on the floor. This results in lesser slips, falls, and accidents around your house too.

Why To Use A Garage Floor Mat
anonymous asked:
If a house is going to have only one messy room, it is usually the garage. People do not think twice before shoving old household goods, gardening supplies, pet stuff, and, oh yes, their cars into the garage. And even if the room is not tidy, it should at least be clean to better protect the stuff stored in there. A garage floor mat under the car is a convenient way to keep the garage clean.
Slushy Mess
In the winter, drivers often bring snow, slush, and water into the garage along with the car. This stuff makes the garage damp. And it is easy to slip on the built up slush and water. Cars that go through mud and dirt also come home with dirty tires.
But putting down a garage floor mat will keep your space clean. Heavy-duty mats usually have a sort of lip around the sides to hold debris. When it is time to clean the mat, drag it outside, remove the lips and hose it clean.
Short Garage
In a roomy garage or carport, drivers never have to worry about hitting the front garage wall, or pulling in enough so that the door can close. But some houses have small garages, or limited space from storing a lot of stuff. It is not just teenagers who have pulled too far into the garage and hit the wall.
People with limited space may profit from putting down two or four small garage floor mats specially designed with blocks to let them know when they have eased into the perfect parking spot. These little mats are made to stick to the garage floor without skidding, and the driver can feel the resistance of the lumps in the garage floor mat when the car has gone far enough.
Oil Spill
Oil and other engine fluids can drip on the garage floor making a mess that is usually not only ugly but also slippery and flammable. These kind of fluids are not easy to clean up with soap and water. And if the garage floor has even a small crack, these fluids can leech into the ground causing environmental damage.
There are several kinds of garage floor mats that offer protection from oil and fluids. First, there are synthetic mats that repel all fluids, and allow you to collect them and dispose of these pollutants in whatever way your county has legislated. Other mats soak up fluids and must be replaced periodically.
