How do you clean straw mats?

latitudesbelize asked:

I have some large straw floor mats and need to know how to clean them. There are some spills, etc. Water tends to leave a watermark. Any suggestions?

I usually take the mats outside and soak the stained areas with a stain remover/soap and then I blast the entire mat with a water hose and let it dry outside.

I use dry carpet cleaning granules by either Capture or Resolve. Both are slightly damp, but not wet enough to leave water marks. I agitate the granules into any stains with a soft brush, allow to dry and vacuum up the excess. The granules work when spead and brushed into the mat with a brush on a stick to brighten up and clean off overall grunge, too.
